From April 10 to 17, 2025, Turkish urologist Associate Professor Doç. Dr. Tayyar Alp Özkan and men’s health specialist Dr. Ömür Erdem Akkaya visited Shanghai First People's Hospital, Renji Hospital (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), and WBL Medical Group’s Chongqing manufacturing base to explore LIPUS technology’s clinical performance and manufacturing quality.
They were accompanied throughout by Mr. Richard Weng, Deputy General Manager of WBL Medical Technology. Both parties engaged in constructive discussions regarding the clinical validation and promotional collaboration of LIPUS in Turkey and the broader Eurasian region.
Clinical Collaboration to Advance LIPUS Trials in Turkey
Dr. Tayyar noted: “I have been interested in LIPUS technology for over three years. This visit has deepened my confidence and clarified our future collaboration. LIPUS offers a non-invasive, drug-free, and surgery-free option for ED treatment—something that will truly benefit many patients.”
Dr. Tayyar earned his degree from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine and completed his urology residency at Kocaeli University. He previously trained at the Cleveland Clinic and Global Robotics Institute in Florida, and now operates a private clinic in Kocaeli, specializing in urologic oncology, laparoscopy, robotic surgery, and female urology.
Dr. Ömür Erdem Akkaya, based in Manisa, focuses on male infertility, Peyronie’s disease, and erectile dysfunction. With over seven years of robotic prostate cancer surgery experience, he emphasized: “LIPUS offers an effective and safe alternative for patients who cannot undergo surgery or prefer to avoid long-term medication.”
Establishing the First LIPUS Clinical Validation Site in Europe
The parties confirmed that Turkey will serve as the first European clinical base for LIPUS validation. If successful, this will enhance credibility in the European market and lay the foundation for broader adoption. Future collaborations may include joint publication of clinical findings and regional awareness campaigns.
Building Trust Through In-Person Collaboration
During their visits in Shanghai and Chongqing, both doctors commended WBL’s technical strength and clinical progress. Dr. Ömür remarked: “What impressed us was not only the results, but the innovation and quality behind WBL as a company.”
Mr. Weng added: “Turkey’s role as a Eurasian hub makes this partnership a cornerstone of our international expansion.”
AUA Exchange Highlights Shared Global Vision
At the 2025 American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Dr. Tayyar met with Prof. Tom F. Lue and Prof. Guiting Lin of UCSF. The three exchanged insights on ongoing LIPUS research and future applications.
Prof. Lue is a tenured professor at UCSF and former President of the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM). He has played a foundational role in translating LIPUS from lab research to clinical therapy since 2012 in collaboration with WBL.
His support signifies global academic recognition for LIPUS, reinforcing trust in its international adoption. WBL Medical will continue working with UCSF and global urology leaders to drive LIPUS forward as the world’s leading non-invasive solution for men’s health.
